QuietSteel® Insulators.

A complete understanding of viscoelastic materials is the first step for developing brake shims which will deliver the quiet brakes demanded by the automotive market today.

The ability of a viscoelastic material to damp is dependable of a series of factors, aspecially temperature and frequency. In addition isolation and frictional damping have to be taken into consideration. This dependability brings the need to develop brake shims tuned for a specific application.

Total pad damping is the sum of the damping of the individual layers. Damping of the friction material and underlayer is temperature dependent. Brake insulators selectively increase the total pad damping at certain pressure, temperatures and frequencies points.

MSC offers a full range of insulator materials including: single layer constructions and constrained layer dampers. QuietSteelŽ insulators offer performance ranging from "Cold Noise" up to "Super High Temperatures" at around 650°C.
